Average speed cameras on the motorway?

-I was just wondering what the speed limit on a motorway is where there are average speed cameras. I know that on a motorway its a 70mph speed limit however my GPS in some parts of motorways tells me to go a 50mph because there's average speed cameras, does that mean i can't go over 50?Speed limit signs with a red circle around them set the speed for any particular stretch of road. When you reach the end of the restricted stretch there will be a white circular sign with a black diagonal stripe across it, which means the limit returns to the national limit (70 MPH on Motorways and Dual carriageways, 60 MPH on other roads)

The warning sings often seen on motorways with a figure and flashing amber lights are just that, warnings, suggesting an advisory maximum speed. They have no legal standing but could be used as evidence if you choose to ignore them and had an accident whilst at a higher speed.
When there are roadworks there will ALWAYS be a sign to tell you what the limit is whether there are any sort of cameras or not IF it is different to the normal 70 mph

In sections permanently controlled by average speed cameras there WILL ALWAYS be signs to tell you what the limit is.

On all roads including motorways there is ALWAYS a sign to tell you where the max speed limit changes and/or reverts back to the national

SATNAV problem - the camera databese is rarely 100% up to date - you may be passing through areas which were average camera areas, set at 50, due to long term roadworks which are now complete and finished and the limit is now 70 again. Your sat nav may not have this info and will tell you that the limit is 50 even though the cameras as well as the roadworks have all gone.

Lesson - never rely on a sat nav - use them for help not definite info.
The motroway speed limit is 70mph - UNLESS directed to reduce speed by overhead signs or roadworks signs or variable speed limit signs.

You GPS may have old info - the speed cameras take a photo and work out the average speed across several cameras - if you average 70 mph, you are OK - if you are over - you get a ticket.
Do you mean Varible speed cameras ? if so each mile or so the speeds change depending on traffic , weather ie fog or accidents if it says do 50 u do 50 dont go above same as 60 etc

the m25 has this system on the way to gatwick side

gps also might be picking up local roads nearby with a speed camera so all of a sudden says 30 mph but infact its a gatso on the little side road on a street nearby the motorway that its picking up
The 50mph speed limit only applies where there are road works.
